What counts in a small store
In a small store the range is manageable, but varied: drinks next to sweets, eggs next to jam. Many customers buy just one or two things and want to be on their way quickly. The till has to know the right tax rates, accept card and voucher and deliver a clean closing in the evening.
Product groups with their tax rates
You create your goods as items in the back office and sort them into product groups, for example drinks, sweets or fruit and vegetables. The product groups form the tabs of the till and carry the tax rates, for example 7% or 19%. Only items that differ get their own rates.
Each product group has two rates: one for eat-in and one for takeaway. If you sell both to take away and to consume on site, for example coffee at the kiosk, the till calculates with the matching rate. Which rates apply to your goods, you clarify with your tax adviser.
Items and stock
At the till, items are ready as colour or photo tiles; whatever sells often is at the top as a favourite. You edit many items in a spreadsheet via CSV, and you change prices for several items at once.
- Track stock per item: at stock 0, an item counts as sold out
- Variants such as 0.33 l and 0.5 l in one item
- Miscellaneous items where you enter the name and price yourself
- Every change to name, price and tax rates is logged
Paying, receipts and closing
You redeem vouchers directly when paying. For card payments you pair a SumUp Solo or a Stripe Smart Reader; the amount goes straight to the reader, and the payment lands on the receipt without retyping. The receipt carries all mandatory details and the verification QR code, and via QR code the customer also gets it digitally on their phone.
At the Z report you count the cash, the till compares the total with the expected amount, and VidiPOS keeps the cash book on the side. If the internet goes down, you keep taking cash; card payments and the Z report need a connection.
Barcode scanner and warehouse management coming soon
Capturing items with a barcode scanner and tracking inventory in a warehouse management system: VidiPOS can’t do that yet. Both are coming soon; we’ll say when they arrive and what they cost once they are ready. Until then you tap items via the tiles and track stock per item.
