Payments at your hospitality POS: split, card, tips Pay the way
your guest wants.

At the end of the evening, guests want to pay quickly – separately, partly cash, partly card, with a tip. VidiPOS turns that into a few taps. The card amount goes straight to the reader, discounts run through permissions, and the receipt comes on paper, as a QR code or by email.

Payment methods

The payment methods your business uses are ready at the till: cash, card and voucher. For business customers you take payment on account if you switch on this payment method in the back office. For each till you set a default payment method.

If a guest paid a deposit with their reservation in VidiReserve, the till deducts it and the receipt shows it. You redeem vouchers directly when paying.

Split bills and mixed payments

If everyone wants to pay for their own, you split the bill by item, and each part is paid separately. If an amount goes to several payment methods, for example partly cash and partly card, you simply record both. Who may split bills is set through permissions.

Discounts with permissions

You give discounts on the whole receipt or on a single item, always with a reason. The receipt shows the discount, and reports break discounts down by type, reason and operator.

Who may give discounts is set in the role. If an operator lacks the permission, a shift manager approves exactly that action with their PIN on the same device. The journal records who booked and who approved.

Tips

Staff choose the tip in the app when paying. If none is chosen there, the card reader can offer the guest three percentages; you set the percentages for the whole business. On the receipt, the tip is shown separately below the total.

For each till you decide who owns the tip recorded with the payment: the staff or the business. The X and Z reports show it split by operator and payment method. Whether this classification fits for tax purposes is something to clarify with your tax adviser.

SumUp Solo card terminal

The SumUp Solo connects to the SumUp cloud via Wi-Fi or mobile network, not via Bluetooth to the tablet. So it can also sit at a different spot. Staff tap “Card”, the amount appears on the reader, the guest holds card or phone against it – and the payment lands on the receipt without retyping. The Solo also accepts girocard.

You pair the reader in the back office with the code it displays and assign it to a till, a device or an operator. As a second provider, Stripe Smart Readers can be paired through your business’s Stripe account.

  • If the connection drops mid-payment, the app resumes it – without charging twice
  • A reversal refunds the amount including the tip to the card
  • If the reader is offline, you take payment on another device and record it as “Card external” with a note
  • The receipt shows the card brand, the last four digits and the authorisation number

Digital receipt and receipt by email

After payment, the till shows a QR code. The guest scans it and has the receipt on their phone, to print or as a PDF. If they would rather have the receipt by email, you tap “Receipt by email”; if the table belongs to a reservation, the till suggests its address in shortened form.

The email is only sent on explicit request, contains no advertising, and the address is not stored.
